Reproduction is an area in which many farms struggle to reach acceptable goals. It's critical to realize that when the reproduction program fails the initial costs pale in comparison to the costs a few months to a year later. When cows fail to breed on time it means that in a few months there will be too many "stale" cows with low production but not bred far enough to dry off. But these cows still require feed, housing, & labor just like the high producers. So profitability declines rapidly. For each month that the calving interval increases the daily milk production average will drop 3-7 pounds. Don't let poor reproduction continue to drain the profitability from your farm--call me & we can discuss several different reproduction programs that can help you reach your goals! |
