Mastitis is a very expensive disease, not only in cost of drugs used for treatment & discarded milk, but most cows permanently lose some production with each flareup. And many of these cases will return several times until the cow is sold. By far the best way to handle mastitis is to prevent it! This is done by ensuring the equipment is functioning correctly, reviewing milking technique in the barn, and examining housing conditions that can lead to mastitis. If you are having problems with mastitis--high somatic cell count, clinical mastitis, etc--call & we can do a complete checkup to find & fix the problem! |
